    Probably borrowed from Dravidian,[1] whence Kannada ಅಡ್ಡ (aḍḍa, obstruction), Tamil அடை (aṭai, be obstructed), Tulu ಅಟಕ (aṭaka), ಅಡಕ (aḍaka, obstacle), and Brahui اڑ (aṛ, obstruction). Possibly related to attested 𑀅𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀡 (aḍḍaṇa, shield).
