Folklore says there were 3 siblings in the western part of now-Dalican, named "Somngi", "Aboli", and the youngest "Lapa-an". They live by farming and hunting animals for their daily food. They distribute chores individually; Somngi is in charge of hunting animals, Aboli for field works, and Lapa-an stays at home to do the rest.

One strong sunny day, Somngi went to the eastern mountains, bringing with him a hunting dog to help. While roaming and tracking the marks of their target, the dog suddenly ran towards a random direction until it was lost. Somngi rushed to follow his dog by following the sound of his barking. Once Somngi located his dog, they found a spring surrounded by green grasses as tall as them. Somngi tasted the water and it was refreshing, prompting him to go home to tell his brothers about the discovery.

As Somngi approach home, his brothers felt down for he had nothing to bring with them. Somngi relieved it by telling the good news, surprising them. Aboli felt amazed for he won't suffer hardships due to lacking water. At that very night, all three decided to relocate nearby the spring. They immediately rushed towards the spring and immediately refreshed themselves with the water. Then they decided and agreed to live separately yet still helping each other. They divided the area into four – Somngi took the upper part of the slope, Aboli had the middle, Lapa-an had the water part, and all three were responsible for the spring.

Somngi named his house "Ato Vawa", Aboli named his "Ato Bobo-ong", and Lapa-an named his "Ato Karang-kang". They discussed the place name and decided on "Likayan", later "Dalikan".
