The root -BĄ́Ą́Z (hooplike, ringlike shape) is cognate with the root -MÁÁZ (globular, spherical, ball-like shape), both possibly originating from Proto-Athabaskan *wątsʼ (roll). Cognate with Ahtna baatsʼ, Lower Tanana botth.
