Gothic

Etymology

From πƒπŒΏπŒ½πŒΎπŒ° (sunja, β€œtruth”) +β€Ž *π†π‚πŒΉπŒΈπŒΏπƒ (*friΓΎus, β€œpeace”). Why the attested form ends in -as is unclear, but compare the similarly non-Ulfilan form π†π‚πŒΉπŒΈπŒ°π‚πŒ΄πŒΉπŒΊπŒ΄πŒΉπƒ (friΓΎareikeis); this may be due to dialectal differences between Ulfilan Gothic and Ostrogothic.
