Etymology
Unknown. Perhaps from earlier *arΜepa, from *ad-Εep-a-, from Proto-Italic *ad-leip-Δ, itself perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *hβΓ©d + *leyp-. Alternatively, the term may derive from Proto-Italic *adΔpΔ-. Perhaps related to Latin adeps. De Vaan mentions the possibility of borrowing from Ancient Greek αΌΞ»Ξ΅ΞΉΟαΎ°Ο (Γ‘leiphΔr); this is evidenced by the forms in -r.
Noun
ππππππ β’ (aΕepes) (ablative plural) (early Iguvine)
