Etymology

From 닭 (dak, “chicken”) +‎ 도리 (dori, unclear meaning; possibly from Japanese 鳥 (“bird, chicken”)) +‎ 탕 (tang, “soup, stew”). Sometimes replaced with 닭볶음탕 (dakbokkeumtang) to avoid purported Japanese etymology.
