Etymology
Of uncertain origin. Often analysed (e.g. 이기갑 2018; 이태성 2019) as a regional development of Middle Korean 므슥 (musuk) (museuk, “what; what kind (of thing)”), via 그슥 (geuseuk) and the more common form 거시기 (geosigi). In Jeonnam dialects, 거시기 (geosigi) is attested with regional variants such as 거석, 거슥, and 그슥.
Pronoun
거슥 • (geoseuk)
- (Jeolla dialect, dialectal) A vague placeholder pronoun, roughly “thingy, whatsit”, used when the speaker cannot or does not want to name something explicitly.
Interjection
거슥 • (geoseuk)
- (Jeolla dialect, dialectal) A discourse filler or hesitation marker, functionally similar to 거시기 (geosigi) (geosigi).
