Etymology

From たけ (take, root of classical ku-adjective(ク活用 (ku katsuyō)) 猛し (takeshi, bold, courageous; violent, vigorous)) + (-bu, to act (in a certain manner), verbal suffix with upper bigrade conjugation).[1] Cognate with (taka, tall, high) and 猛る (takeru).[1]
