    • 1914, 夏目漱石 [Natsume Sōseki], chapter 24, in こゝろ [Kokoro], 上 先生と私 [Sensei and I]:
      椎茸(しいたけ)(あたら)しい菓子折(かしおり)()れてあった。鄭寧(ていねい)(れい)()べた(おく)さんは、(つぎ)()()(とき)、その(おり)()って()て、(かる)いのに(おどろ)かされたのか、「こりゃ(なん)御菓子(おかし)」と()いた。
      Shītake wa atarashii kashiori ni irete atta. Teinei ni rei o nobeta oku-san wa, tsugi no ma e tatsu toki, sono ori o motte mite, karui no ni odorokasareta no ka, “Korya nan no o-kashi” to kiita.
      The shiitake had been put in a new cake box. His wife thanked me politely, and as she left for the next room holding it, she asked, perhaps surprised by how light it was, "What kind of sweets are these?"
