Etymology 1

Learned borrowing from Sanskrit स्मृति (smṛti, “mindfulness; memory; etc”). Cognate with Pali sati, whence Thai สติ (sà-dtì). Cognate also with Lao ສົມປະດີ (som pa dī), ສົມປະຣຶດີ (som pa rư dī).
