Compare Prakrit *𑀝𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀢𑀺 (*ṭippati, “notes”), *𑀝𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧 (*ṭippa, “note”), Gujarati ટીપ (ṭīp), Marathi टीप (ṭīp, “note, list”), टापरणें (ṭāparṇẽ, “mallet”), टिपणें (ṭipṇẽ, “to jot; to hit”). Cognate with Kannada ಟಪಾಲು (ṭapālu), Malayalam തപാൽ (tapāl), Tamil தபால் (tapāl).
