Plural of மக (maka), compare மகன் (makaṉ, “son”) and மகள் (makaḷ, “daughter”). Cognate with Kannada ಮಕ್ಕಳು (makkaḷu, “children”) and Malayalam മക്കൾ (makkaḷ, “children”).
