Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀁𑀟𑀕 (bhaṃḍaga), from Sanskrit भाण्डक (bhāṇḍaka), from भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa, pot, utensil; treasure).[1] Cognate with Hindi भंडा (bhaṇḍā), Marathi भांडे (bhāṇḍe), Punjabi ਭਾਂਡਾ / بھانڈا (bhāṇḍā), Saraiki بھانڈَہ (bhānḍah).
