Inherited from Old Gujarati जि (ji), इजि (iji), ज (ja), इ (i), from Apabhramsa जि (ji), from Prakrit 𑀚𑁂𑀯 (jeva), 𑀚𑁂𑀯𑁆𑀯 (jĕvva), from Sanskrit ए॒व (evá).[1] Cognate with Nepali इ (i), Odia ଇ (i).
