    Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *seg-, *seng- (to fasten, attach, touch). Cognate with Lithuanian sègti (to fasten, to pin),[1] Latvian segt (to cover), Proto-Slavic *sę̄gnǫ̀ti (to reach).
