Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *wasnám, from Proto-Indo-European *wos-nó-, from *wes- (“to trade, sell”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὦνος (ônos, “price”) and Latin vēndere (“to sell”). Also related to Persian بازار (bâzâr, “market”).
