    Borrowed from Classical Persian رَقِیب (raqīb), borrowed from Arabic رَقِيب (raqīb), from رَقَبَ (raqaba).[1][2] First attested in c. 1564 as Middle Hindi رَقِیب (rqyb /⁠raqīb⁠/).[3]
