Etymology

A marginally attested term of uncertain origin, not mentioned in etymological dictionaries. Monier-Williams opines that the term is related to अश्रु (áśru, tear).[1] Perhaps the word is a blend of अश्रु (áśru) with मुख॑ (múkha, mouth, face) or श्मश्रु (śmáśru, beard, moustache).
