Etymology
From the root मुच् (muc) + -ति (-ti), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)mewk-. Compare मुञ्चति (muñcati, “to loosen, let loose, free”). Related to Lithuanian mùkti (“to be released, to escape”) (1g. munkù, 1sg. past mukaũ) and Classical Persian زمخت (zumuxt) and مفت (muft).
