Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dʰr̥ṣúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰr̥šúš, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰr̥-s-ús, from *dʰers- (“to be bold”). Cognate with Ancient Greek θρᾰσύς (thrăsús), Old Prussian dirsos.
