Etymology
Compound of ताना (tānā, “taunting”) + शाह (śāh, “king, ruler”).
Coincidentially, also coined after Abu'l Hasan 'Tana Shah' the genial benevolent ruler of the 17th century Deccan kingdom of Golconda, wrongly portrayed as a vile and perverted despot in contemporary chronicles.
