Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *uktás (“said, spoken”), from Proto-Indo-European *ukʷ-tó-s, from *wekʷ- (“to speak”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬎𐬑𐬙𐬀 (uxta, “said, spoken”). Compare also Old Armenian ուխտ (uxt), an Iranian borrowing.
