अ॒र्चिस् • (arcís) stem, n or f

1. ray, flame, light, lustre, brilliance

     आ यः स्व१॒॑र्ण भा॒नुना॑ चि॒त्रो वि॒भात्य्अ॒र्चिषा॑ ।
     अ॒ञ्जा॒नो अ॒जरै॑र॒भि ॥

     ā́ yáḥ svàrṇá bhānúnā citró vibhā́tyarcíṣā.
     añjānó ajárairabhí.

     Who shines refulgent like the Sun, with brilliance and with fiery flame,
     Decked with imperishable splendour.

     उत्सूर्यो॑ बृ॒हद्अ॒र्चींष्य्अ॑श्रेत्पु॒रु विश्वा॒ जनि॑म॒ मानु॑षाणाम् ।

     útsū́ryo bṛhádarcī́ṃṣyaśretpurú víśvā jánima mā́nuṣāṇām.

     Sūrya had sent aloft his beams of splendour over all the tribes of men in countless places.

     दीपानां च प्रकाशेन तेजसा रावणस्य च ।
     अर्चिर्भिर्भूषणानां च प्रदीप्तेत्यभ्यमन्यत ॥

     dīpānāṃ ca prakāśena tejasā rāvaṇasya ca.
     arcirbhirbhūṣaṇānāṃ ca pradīptetyabhyamanyata.

     He imagined that the entire place was set ablaze with the glow of lamps, the lustre of Rāvaṇa and the lustre of ornaments.

   • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 4.22.2:

     तांस्तु सिद्धेश्वरान् राजा व्योम्नोऽवतरतोऽर्चिषा ।
     लोकानपापान् कुर्वाणान् सानुगोऽचष्ट लक्षितान् ॥

     tāṃstu siddheśvarān rājā vyomnoʼvataratoʼrciṣā.
     lokānapāpān kurvāṇān sānugoʼcaṣṭa lakṣitān.

     Seeing the glowing brilliance of the four Kumāras, the masters of all mystic power, the King and his associates could recognise them as they descended from the sky.
