Etymology
Traditionally explained as अनु- (anu-, “after”) + स्तुभ् (stubh, “to praise; to utter a joyful sound”, root), literally “following in praise”, referring to the way it follows the three-pāda (8-syllable unit) गायत्री (gāyatrī) with its four pādas.

anuṣṭúbhā sóma uktháirmáhasvānbṛ́haspáterbṛhatī́ vā́camāvat. - Closely was Gāyatrī conjoined with Agni, and closely Savitā combined with Usnih.
Brilliant with Ukthas, Soma joined Anuṣṭubh: Bṛhaspati's voice by Bṛhati was aided.
