From the older form ܒܹܝܬ݂ ܟ݂ܘܼܕܲܝܕܵܐ (bēṯ ḵūdaydā), the second element ultimately from Proto-Iranian *BágadaHtah. Compare Persian خدایداد (xodâydâd). Doublet of ܒܲܓ݂ܕܵܕ (baḡdād, Baghdad).
