Extension of قَرَش (ʔaraš, “to crunch”) with a root infix ـمـ (-m-). Perhaps also somehow descended from Arabic قَرْمَشَ (qarmaša, “to spoil, ruin”).

Etymology 2
Seemingly derived from the verb قرمش (ʔarmaš, “to crunch”), as the verb is present in nearly all Arabic dialects whereas قُرمُش (ʔurmuš, “grasshopper”) is only found in South Lebanon. Perhaps created by copying the vowels of the original term جُنْدُب (jundub, “grasshopper”).
