Etymology

Inherited from Chagatai قانداغ (qāndāġ /⁠qandaġ⁠/), قانداق (qāndāq /⁠qandaq⁠/), from *kanï teg. Equivalent to قاـ (qa-, interrogative stem) +‎ ـنى (-ni, accusative case suffix) +‎ ـدەك (-dek, similitude case suffix). Compare Uzbek qandoq, qanday, qandaqa, qanaqa, Kazakh қандай (qandai), Kyrgyz кандай (kanday).
