Etymology

Akin to Southern Kurdish ئیوە (îwe), Northern Kurdish we and dialectal hewe (and more distantly hûn), Southern Luri ایسا (isa), Bakhtiari ایسا (isa), Zazaki şima, Gurani شمە (şme), Persian شما. From *išma > *ihma > *ihwa > *êwa. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *usmé, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yušmá, from Proto-Indo-European *yúHs. Compare Ancient Greek ὑμέας (huméas), Sanskrit युष्म (yuṣma).
