- And accuses her of wrongdoings and defames her and says: I took this woman [as a wife], but when I approached her I didn't find her to be a virgin.
- Tanach, Deuteronomy 22:17:
- וְהִנֵּה־הוּא שָׂם עֲלִילֹת דְּבָרִים לֵאמֹר לֹא־מָצָאתִי לְבִתְּךָ בְּתוּלִים וְאֵלֶּה בְּתוּלֵי בִתִּי וּפָרְשׂוּ הַשִּׂמְלָה לִפְנֵי זִקְנֵי הָעִיר׃
- "And look, he accuses [her] of wrongdoings by saying 'I didn't find your daughter to be a virgin!', but this is the virginity of my daughter." And they must spread the [bloodstained] cloth before the elders of the town.
