Usage notes

  • The imperfective verb іти́ (itý) with corresponding perfective піти́ (pitý) is a unidirectional verb. Its multidirectional counterpart is ходи́ти (xodýty).
  • The forms іти́ (itý) (used after consonants or at the beginning of a clause) and йти (jty) (used after vowels) differ in pronunciation but are considered variants of the same word.
  • The synonym їхати always implies the use of a vehicle
