Etymology

By surface analysis, седем (sedem) +‎ -ме (-me). Epenthetic -ц- (-c-) is due to influence from пейцме (pejcme) and шейсцме (šejscme)[1], and also to break up the -мм- (-mm-) consonant cluster across morpheme boundaries.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [sɛˈdɛmt͡smɛ]
  • Rhymes: -ɛmt͡smɛ
  • Hyphenation: се‧дем‧цме

Numeral

Usage notes

  • Only used with male persons. Elsewise, седмеро (sedmero) is used. From numbers 7 and up, the cardinal number may also be used in lieu.
  • Declension is optional for collective -ме (-me)-type numbers 7-10; 11-19 rarely decline; 20 and above are indeclinable.
