Inherited from Proto-Ketic *dʲuːdʲ (“fish at night by torchlight”, infinitive verb), derived from Proto-Yeniseian *du (“smoke”) + Proto-Ketic *beˤdʲʌ (“make, do”, infinitive verb) with an assimilatory palatalization of anlaut *d to *dʲ.[1]

Alternatively, analyzable as a verbal compound of дуʼ (duˀ, “smoke”) +‎ бет (bèd, “making, doing”, action nominal).
