Etymology
Borrowed from Kumyk багъана (bağana) with the presumed sandhi. Cognates include Ingush бӏоагӏа (bˀoağa).
Nikolaev, Starostin and Schrijver, however, reconstruct the Proto-Nakh form.[1][2][3] It is unclear whether Bats ბოღურ (boɣur, “stake, peg”) is related.
