φλίβω
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Uncertain. Perhaps in some way related to flīgō (“to strike down”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleyǵ-; see the Latin for more cognates.[1] However, the exact reconstruction of the root is unclear.[2][3] The linguist Romain Garnier suggests that it could derive from an older perfect participle *πε-φλιγ-ϝώς (*pe-phlig-wṓs), which would ultimately derive from the same root.[4]
