History

The broad-gauge railway line from Varanasi to Lucknow was opened by the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway in 1872. TLMD was likely established sometime after this main line was built to the pilgrimage site of the Trilochan Mahadev Temple.

The line provided easy access to the ancient Trilochan Mahadev Temple, which has been in existence since at least the Tretayuga according to local legends.

The lines were electrified and doubled to handle increasing traffic.
