Strihovce (Hungarian: Szirtes, Rusyn: Стриговець) is a village and municipality in Snina District in the Prešov Region of north-eastern Slovakia.

History

In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1323. Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, Strihovce was part of Zemplén County within the Kingdom of Hungary. In 1939, it was for a short time part of the Slovak Republic. As a result of the Slovak–Hungarian War of 1939, it was from 1939 to 1944 again part of Hungary. In the autumn of 1944, the Red Army entered Strihovce and it was once again part of Czechoslovakia.

Geography

The municipality lies at an altitude of 425 metres (1,394 ft)[3] and covers an area of 13.21 km2 (5.10 sq mi) (2024).[4]
