The Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party (Nepali: प्रगतिशील लोकतान्त्रिक पार्टी, lit.'Progressive Democratic Party'; PDP) is a left-wing political party in Nepal.[4][5] The party formation was announced on 14 November 2025 through an agreement signed by former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai's Nepal Socialist Party, Janardan Sharma's Progressive National Campaign, and Santosh Pariyar, former leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.[6] The party retained the eye as its election symbol.[7]

It seeks to achieve this through mergers and collaboration with progressive and leftist groups, including the Netra Bikram Chand led CPN (Maoist) and the Ghanashyam Bhusal led CPN (United).[8][9]

Background

On 14 November 2025 the Progressive National Campaign announced merger with former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai's party Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti) and Santosh Pariyar led group of Rastriya Swatantra Party to form the Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party.[10]

The Progressive National Campaign, Nepal (Nepali: प्रगतिशील राष्ट्रिय अभियान, नेपाल) was a political party in Nepal led by former Finance and Home minister of Nepal, Janardan Sharma.[12][13] The party was joined by former ministers Ram Karki, Sudan Kirati and others from the CPN (Maoist Centre). Initially, the party was declared as campaign on 4 November 2025 with a vision to develop new form of Nepali socialism putting forward youths in leadership.[14][15]

The campaign database suggest it aims to create a new mainstream leftist force, free from the influence of older leaders who have been involved in the political revolving door of leadership.[16] It seeks to achieve this through mergers and collaboration with progressive and leftist groups, including the Netra Bikram Chand led Communist Party Nepal and the Ghanashyam Bhusal led Unified Socialist Reorganization Campaign.[17]

Formation

The party formation was announced on 14 November 2025 through merger of former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai's party NSP (Naya Shakti), Janardan Sharma led Progressive National Campaign, Nepal and Santosh Pariyar led group of Rastriya Swatantra Party.[6] While Sharma had disagreements regarding unideological merger to form Nepali Communist Party, formerly chief parliamentary whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Santosh pariyar also joined the camp for formation of new alternative force.[6]

A number of parties have merged to form PCP-N:

The party considers "Nepali socialism with refined Marxism" as its ideological political stand with participation of all in democracy.[20][21]

Central committee

The party formed 151 membered central committee under conservation of Baburam Bhattarai. Former ministers Janardan Sharma, Ram Karki stayed on role of senior leaders without portfolio.[22]
