The 2025–26 Houston Rockets season is the 59th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and 55th season in the city of Houston.[1]

On June 22, 2025, the Rockets announced a trade with the Phoenix Suns involving Kevin Durant in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft from the Brooklyn Nets. The Suns also received five second-round picks, including one acquired by Houston from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2025 draft.[2][3] The Rockets started off the season 2–2, but would eventually improve on that record later on, getting their 10th win after only 13 games, which represented their best regular season opener record since their 15–0 record from the 1993-94 season.

The Rockets entered the 2025 NBA draft holding one first-round pick and one second-round pick.[4][5] Their first-round pick originated from the Phoenix Suns as part of the trade that sent Kevin Durant to Phoenix, with Houston acquiring that selection along with two other first-round picks from the Suns via the Brooklyn Nets. The Rockets’ second-round pick, which was slated to be the final selection of the draft following the New York Knicks’ forfeiture of their pick due to free agency violations involving Jalen Brunson, was acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder through a three-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks. On June 22, the Rockets agreed to trade both of their 2025 draft selections, along with Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and four additional second-round picks, to the Suns in exchange for Durant.[2][3] As a result, Houston entered the draft without any picks.

By the conclusion of the draft, Houston joined the Denver Nuggets as one of only two teams without a retained draft pick for 2025.

Least favorable 2032 second-round pick between Houston and Minnesota[II]

^ I: The 2026 second-round pick, which was initially set to be conveyed to the Phoenix Suns before being sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the seven-team trade, will be the lesser of two selections — either the Denver Nuggets' 2026 second-round pick acquired by Phoenix in an earlier trade with the Charlotte Hornets, or the Golden State Warriors' 2026 second-round pick obtained through a series of subsequent trades.
^ II: The 2032 second-round pick conveyed to Minnesota will be the higher selection between Houston and Phoenix, with the Suns retaining the lower of the two. As a result, if the Suns finish with a worse record than the Rockets in 2032, the trade would result in Phoenix receiving the lower selection between Houston and Minnesota, while Houston would send Phoenix’s 2032 second-round pick to Minnesota. Conversely, if the Rockets finish with a better record than the Suns, Houston would convey Phoenix’s second-round pick—either back to the Suns or to the Timberwolves, depending on which team holds the better record that year—while Minnesota would receive the remaining two picks among the three teams.
^ III: As a result of an additional trade between the Brooklyn Nets and the Memphis Grizzlies—a transaction complicated by multiple prior deals, including one involving Phoenix—the Nets will receive either the Los Angeles Clippers’ unprotected 2026 second-round pick or one of the second-round selections originally owned by the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, or Miami Heat, depending on which is least favorable among the four teams for that season.
^ IV: As part of a series of trades involving Houston prior to the Suns’ major transaction, Phoenix will receive the middle-valued first-round pick in the 2026 NBA draft. The Oklahoma City Thunder will obtain the most valuable of the three selections, while the San Antonio Spurs will receive the least valuable pick through a separate trade. The three picks in question belong to the Dallas Mavericks, the Thunder, and the Philadelphia 76ers.
