Etymology

Borrowed from Japanese (ぜっ)(たい)(りょう)(いき) (zettai ryōiki, literally absolute territory). Originally a reference to the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, where (ぜっ)(たい)(きょう)()(りょう)(いき) (zettai kyōfu ryōiki, absolute terror field) refers to a force field impenetrable by conventional weapons.
