zbres
Albanian
Etymology
Inherited from Common Albanian *əzbréz (with final devoicing to -s), from Proto-Albanian *əzbredᶻə, from Pre-Proto-Albanian *ezbrédyV, with synocope from older *ezbrédiyV, with i-umlaut from older PPA *ezbrádiyV ("to move out, go away"). The word may be dissected as *ez-brádiyV, with the *ez- prefix being inherited from Proto-Indo-European *eǵʰs (“out”), and the base *brádiyV ("to move, roam") being inherited from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrodʰéye/o- (“to wade”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰredʰ- (“to wade”).[1]
