Etymology
According to Dwyer, borrowed from Old Uyghur [script needed] (yad-), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *yād-.[1] Cognate to Turkish yaymak, Turkmen ýа̄ýmak, also Western Yugur [script needed] (yaz-).
However, alternatively cognate to Gagauz yazmaa (“to roll out the dough”), dialectal Turkish yazmak (“to spread; to roll out the dough”), Turkmen ýazmak (“to spread”) and from Proto-Oghuz *yaz-.
