Etymology

From tropomyosin. Coined by the Japanese researcher Setsuro Ebashi in 1963.[1]

troponin (countable and uncountable, plural troponins)

  1. (biochemistry, medicine, cardiology) A heterotrimeric regulatory protein complex found in the thin filaments of striated muscle fibers, including both skeletal and cardiac muscle, that controls calcium-mediated muscle contraction.
