From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tampuk₃ (“stem, stalk of a plant”).

The sense of "stigmatic lobe" is probably a misconception with the pattern of tampuk manggis as it is actually refers to the pedicel parts of the fruit.

tampuk (plural tampuk-tampuk or tampuk²)

1. (botany) pedicel, the end of the stem where the fruit is attached (usually include the sepal).

2. (colloquial, of garcinias) a stigmatic lobe left when a fruit ripe (i.e. on mangosteen, kecupu, gelugur etc.).
3. (anatomy) a hilus.
4. handle of a tool or similar object.
5. (figurative) position of a leader.
