    From Middle Irish sreód (“sneeze”),[1] from Proto-Celtic *fstrew-, from Proto-Indo-European *pster-. Cognate with Breton strevial (“to sneeze”), Cornish striw, Scottish Gaelic sreoth, and obsolete Welsh trew.
