• From Andalusian Arabic سِقْلَاب (siqláb, “slave; eunuch”), from Medieval Latin sclavus (“slave”), from Late Latin Sclavus (“Slav”), from Byzantine Greek Σκλάβος (Sklábos), from Proto-Slavic *slověninъ, because Slavs were often forced into slavery in the Middle Ages. Possible doublet of esklabo and eslabo. See also Arabic صَقْلَاب (ṣaqlāb) and صَقْلَبِيّ (ṣaqlabiyy).
• From Yucatec Maya tziclán (“half-castrated horse”).
