Inherited from Proto-Algonquian [Term?], from Proto-Algonquian *ši·ʔši·y (gourd, rattle). Cognate with Ojibwe zhiishiigwe, Plains Cree sîsîkwêw, Potawatomi zhishigwé, Miami šiihšiikwia, Penobscot síhsihkʷe, Malecite-Passamaquoddy sissihq, Montagnais ushishikueu, Cheyenne šé'šenovȯtse.
