- Sāriġ was not used as an apologetic interjection.
- In other words, one would not simply say, *Sāriġ. to apologize for something.
- To express an apology, one used these verbs:
- One could use forġiefan (in the imperative form) or belādian (in either the imperative form, or in the indicative with a reflexive pronoun of the one apologising) can be used: Forġief þū mē lēof! Þæt nis ġīet ġearu. ("Forgive me, sir! That's not ready yet.").
- Alternatively, ofþynċan may be used: Mē ofþyncþ þæt wē fliton ("I'm sorry that we quarrelled", literally "It displeases me that we quarrelled").
