Vietnamese
Etymology
A now common corruption of xúp that arose either by the fact that northern Vietnamese dialects have an x-s merger, or that people from southern Vietnam have certain degrees of hyperforeignism when attempting to imitate the spelling of the source word, the French soupe. Hyperforeignism is not unusual in Vietnam, especially in the South where English spellings have been increasingly adopted over transcriptions.
