Etymology

Unknown. Possibly borrowed from Ottoman Turkish قفا (compare Turkish kafa (“head”)), from Arabic قَفَاء (qafāʔ, “back of the neck”).[1] However, the term is seen first in Buzuku's writings in 1555, and is present in the Arbëresh dialect as well, which usually does not have Turkish loans.
