1. A native or inhabitant of any polity that emerged after the fall of the Hittite Empire.
2. (loosely, proscribed) A Neo-Hittite.

• The Neo-Hittite states were post-Hittite states that preserved Hittite imperial traditions. All Neo-Hittite states were post-Hittite, but not all post-Hittite states were Neo-Hittite. Similar contrasts appear in other fields. For example, Gothic architecture was postclassical (“appearing after classical antiquity”) but not neoclassical (“reviving the classical style”).
